 After what has been for many a fairly tough financial year with lots of ups and downs in the global economy isn’t it nice to know that there is one thing you can always count on as a member of our teddy club?
That is a great newsletter every month packed full of fantastic bears at really great prices!
This month we are featuring the newest designs from Deans of England, in fact they are so new they have not even been officially released as yet.
Deans have allowed us to give members a pre-release preview about 2 weeks before the rest of the world gets to see them.
With many members now expecting a nice little tax refund there has never been a better time to save a pile of dollars on some very collectable bears.

The good, the bad and the cuddly!
STEIFF TEDDY SURVIVES NZ EARTHQUAKE.
I found this article in a travel newsletter I subscribe to and thought our members might find it interesting.
Good stories are emerging in the aftermath of Christchurch’s devastating February earthquake.
Some special items are being found in hotel ruins.
 Preliminary work was underway over the weekend to demolish the multi-storey carpark next to the tilting Hotel Grand Chancellor, once the city’s biggest hotel. Once that’s completed (probably this week) demolition crews will start tearing down the stricken hotel itself.
Before they knock the hotel down, workers might find a few precious or personal pieces of property in the ruins. The Hotel Grand Chancellor and the adjacent All Seasons in Cashel Street have been considered too dangerous to enter and retrieve guests’ luggage.
Other hotels searched for abandoned luggage, however, have yielded a bonanza, which is being returned to guests. A Tiffany diamond bracelet, carefully wrapped in a sock, a very special teddy bear and a woman’s shoe collection are among belongings returned to grateful owners since being retrieved from earthquake-hit Christchurch hotels, the Christchurch Press reports.
The items were left behind by hundreds of visitors who had to return home overseas or elsewhere in New Zealand, leaving their belongings in the cordoned-off hotels.
New Zealand Hotel Council (NZHC) executive Rachael Shadbolt told the paper that property is being returned to owners around the world. Over 750 pieces of luggage had been recovered from rooms and sent to 37 countries and to 200 addresses in New Zealand, she said.
Who knows the story behind the stash of foreign banknotes hidden in a fake soft-drink can in one room? The SPHC just concerns itself with returning belongings to their owners.
Scott Wallace, South Island operations director for Millennium and Copthorne hotels, told the paper hotel teams had worked with the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority to extract guests’ possessions where possible.
Wallace said teams had recovered a NZ$10,000 Tiffany diamond bracelet belonging to a guest who had visited with an exclusive tour.
When an Australian family wrote to say their child’s much-loved Steiff teddy bear had not been located among their returned belongings, the team went back and found it hidden in bedclothes.
The only sour note turned out to be not so sour after all.
Two guests trapped in the Hotel Grand Chancellor, who had to crawl on the roof of an adjacent carpark to escape (the carpark that’s being demolished this week) were upset to receive a hotel bill for NZD233.
The bill for two nights included a parking fee for a car that took two months to recover.
On inquiry, however, a Hotel Grand Chancellor spokesperson confirmed that the bill was a mistake.
Guests caught in the earthquake would not be expected to pay for their stay.
Considering the size, extent and death toll of the earthquake, the bill is a minor matter.

Grover puts in a winning performance as actress picks him for her daughters.
She could afford to buy her daughters a pink palace to play in - but Nicole Kidman opted for a simple Sesame Street toy.
The Eyes Wide Shut actress looked relaxed and carefree as she shopped for gifts in Woollahra Sydney Australia with her sister Antonia.

 The new Christmas 2011 designs are now in stock but supply is even more limited than last year, with the global economy affecting so many manufacturers most have cut back on the number of each design they are producing.
Cherished teddies are in this same predicament, and have decided to reduce the editions rather than have an huge amount of stock sitting around unsold.
This shortage will actually be good for collectors who get in quick as once the available stock is sold through the shops the values will increase more rapidly as collectors struggle to find the ones they want.

Benedict is a large 48cm very soft & cuddly mohair collectable bear.
He has suedette pads and paws with a distinctive black claw feature.
He is fully jointed and growls when tilted forward.
He has a double ribbon feature which adds to his appeal.

This rather superior bear is made from a grey and fawn marled mohair which is both pleasing on the eye and soft to the touch.
He has large amber eyes and growls when tilted forward.
The pads and paws are made of black suedette and have grey claw features.
Bentley has a black satin ribbon and a very stylish Venetian glass pendant.
He is 15" (37cm) tall and has an edition of 20.

Made from a dense pale golden mohair, this little character has a charm most bears dream about.
He has beans in his body and a gold satin ribbon which fastens in a bow at the back of his neck.
This, of course, is so that it does not detract from the attractive beanie he is wearing.
Schnookie is 13" (32cm) tall and his edition is 20. This bear is a real winner!

Limited Edition of only 50 bears world-wide
It is this design of bear which makes Chloe Wilson designed bears so collectable.
Generously sized at the base, it has a narrow neck and a natural bib on the chest area.
The mohair plush is grey and luxurious and the body contains beans.
The muzzle is trimmed and sprayed and the nose is a similar cerise colour to the paws and inner ears.
By way of a change, the eyes are blue and its features make for a superb bear.
Wimple is 16" (40cm) tall and has an edition of 50.

Although he is made from a traditional London Gold mohair, that is about the only traditional thing about this bear. He is another Chloe Wilson design and stands 14" (35cm) tall and has an edition of 40.
His mohair is thick and distressed, he has maroon pads and inner ears and lots of beans in his body.
He is closely shaved around the muzzle and sprayed on the top of his multi-coloured nose.
He has small, black eyes and he wears a tartan tie in colours that match his striped nose which is a Chloe signature feature.

This sad and sorry looking bear is typical of Chloe’s work.
She is sad but appealing. and has a generous lower body and a narrow neck design. She is made from pale pink mohair and has beans in her body.
She is 12" (30cm) tall and has an edition of 50.
Her muzzle is shaved accentuating the eyebrows and multi-coloured nose and the bell on a rope and the blue lurex ribbon complete this delightful bear

This damsel is rather larger than this portrait would indicate.
She is a healthy 14” (35cm ) tall and made from the silkiest of mohair which is sand coloured, tipped brown and distressed.
She has large amber eyes and beans in her body and is wearing a toning bead necklace and looks an elegant lady that would be at home with the best of teddy bear aristocracy.
There are just 20 bears in her edition.

This inquisitive bear is made from an unusual ice blue wavy mohair.
Her pads and paws are made from pale blue suedette and have a distinctive stitched claw feature.

This young lady has everything!
Her mohair is the softest pink imaginable, slightly ratineed, and supremely tactile.
She has beans in her body and a beautiful embroidered rose motif on her right footpad.

This happy little chap is made from rich black mohair and has bright red real suede pads and paws that make for a knock out contrast.
He is fully jointed and wears a matching red cross grain ribbon.
All in all, he is an inexpensive bear that looks like he is worth much more.
Pablo has all the right Deans credentials to ensure his collectability!

Mocha is the bear seen cuddling close to Wimple on the front cover of the new Deans 2011 Autumn catalogue which will be released in the next week or two.
His stressed mohair is coffee colour which has a tan coloured backing material.
His pads and paws are made of camel coloured suedette and he has a cute natural muzzle - just to make him a little different.
The olive satin ribbon completes his old well loved appearance which is just sufficiently different to make him stand out in a crowd.

 Ragamuffin
Limited Edition of only 40 bears world-wide
Chloe Wilson really excelled herself when she designed this scruffy aged antique looking bear.
A few years ago, Dean’s were well known for producing scruffy bears and this design would have been up there with the best of them.
It is made from distressed mohair and has hand stitched repair marks all over it but don’t be fooled, the bear is securely made.
It has beans in its body, a sparsely embroidered nose and a hand knitted woollen scarf and there is even some spraying on his foot pads to further add to the aged look.
He is skinny and looks taller than his 12” - but it is cute! The edition is only 40.

CENTENARY BEAR
DEANS ORIGINAL DESIGN LIMITED EDITION OF 2003 BEARS WORLD-WIDE
 The now retired centenary series was created to mark the 100th birthday of the teddy bear in 2003.
Deans Centenary Bear is a very traditional teddy made of rich gold mohair, he wears a special anniversary ribbon and has the centenary years embroidered on his foot.
Although this teddy was made in 2003 he is still brand new, we purchased quite a number of these special bears and have kept a few aside for special promotions like this Deans Event.
When released in 2003 he was selling for $349 but 1 lucky member now has the opportunity to win him in our buyers prize draw.
