Hi Bear Club Members,
After a major website outage which took our entire site and catalogue down for the weekend we are now back up and operating again.
This occurred shortly after we sent out a news blast with a members special offer on Charlie Bears.
It seems we had so many members trying to go to the “Charlie Bears in Stock” section of the catalogue all at the same time that the server hosting our site could not meet the huge traffic demand and crashed.
It took ages for our service providers to identify the problem and then days to be able to get it back on line and working properly, during this outage we were also unable to update stock and remove any designs that have sold out but I believe I have caught up with this again and 99% of designs showing in the “in stock section” are still available although a lot of the Mohair limited editions are down to only a few of each design still for sale.
If you were one of the members trying to access our catalogue during the meltdown please accept our apologies.
We have extended to Charlie Bears extra discount offer sent in
last weeks E-mail until Sunday 25th to give all members a fair
chance to take advantage of this great offer.

Another month has past and life at Nana’s Teddies is still an ever changing pandemonium of scheduled and unscheduled events and happenings from new arrivals to Royal Visitors and quite a bit of media attention coming our way.
April was quite busy, we filmed a segment for a new I-Phone & I-Pad application called Bound Round, did interviews for several newspapers and magazines about our presentation of a Baby Prince George Bear to the Royal Family and a travel destination feature for the NRMA.
Our eldest Grandson Kaleb had the honour of meeting the Royals, he shook hands with William and after participating in a rock climbing and abseiling exhibition he received a pat on the shoulder and a “well done” from Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge.
He was most excited about his brush with royalty and the TV and newspaper coverage, it made him quite the celebrity at school after the holidays.
In the middle of all this unusual activity we welcomed over 2000 new bears and helped many of them find new homes.
Jan and I celebrated 40 years of being a couple and took a day off without the kids and the bears to enjoy still being together, we even went out for a romantic dinner, something we don’t get enough time for anymore.
Lots of news and special offers for you again in this months edition and if you respond quickly the last opportunity to secure a few very important and now retired teddy bears.

LOCAL & GLOBAL TEDDY NEWS
The good, the bad and the cuddly!
BIG BEAR HUGS FOR PRINCE GEORGE
We also made the news in this article in the Blue Mountains Gazette and several Sydney and international newspapers
Nana’s Teddies & Toys a Blaxland business was showcased to the Royal family during the recent visit to the Blue Mountains by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The Royal couple received a special edition Prince George teddy bear from Nana’s Teddies and Toys, presented to a
Kensington Palace official at Echo Point by a tourism representative before the visit.
The bear was passed to the Duke and Duchess for baby Prince George, along with accompanying documents of authentication and a letter from Australia’s largest specialty bear shop owner, Dave Robertson.
Mr Robertson, who is also Blue Mountains Attractions Group president, said the HRH Prince George bear was created
by Hermann Coburg of Germany to celebrate the birth of the future King of England.
Only 500 such plush toys were made worldwide.
Valued at $399, the Prince George bear is made of a thick curly white German mohair filled with high resilience polyester
fibre and wears a collar embroidered with tiny blue flowers amid lots of gold and the Royal Crown.
His paws are embroidered with the edition number and his birth details and comes with a Hermann certificate of authenticity.
The bear is part of the British Royalty Series.
“When we heard that Their Royal Highnesses were to visit the Blue Mountains, we knew we had to get a Prince George
bear to them,” Mr Robertson said. “We are very honored that the Royal family will now have a piece of Nana’s Teddies in their home.”
The Royal visit had already helped boost visitation to the Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Oberon region, providing welcome relief after a challenging past few months, Mr Robertson said. “The Easter break has been huge for tourist attractions this year. Businesses have been literally overflowing with visitors and the streets have been filled with people in holiday mode which creates a positive, happy vibe for everyone.”
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE PALACE
Well at the time we didn’t think it funny but in hindsight this little story has got everyone amused
The gift we sent to Baby Prince George had to go through the security division of the Royal Tour and all such gifts are scanned and x-rayed before being cleared to be go to the Royal Family.
The Kensington Palace Security people worked here with the Australian Federal Police on security issues and when they scanned our Royal bear detected what they at first thought was a battery and loose wire inside the bear, a possible BOMB!
Well alarms went off and panic ensued as you can imagine with the possible threat to the young Prince’s well being,
We had a very concerned security policeman on the phone asking questions about who packed the bear, what was placed inside it and other security issues.
On further discussing their findings we determined that what they thought could be a bomb was in fact the teddy bears growler voice box that is fitted to many good quality bears.
After re X-raying the bear and looking at the information we provided on teddy growlers they were satisfied that all was well and that Teddy was indeed a valuable gift and that we had no ill intentions toward our your Prince.
I dont mind telling you that my heart leapt into my mouth when first contacted on this matter, until it was eventually resolved after 3 phone calls I kept imagining a big anti terrorism van pulling up in the driveway to take us away for questioning.
But all is well that ends well, we got an apology, the young Prince got his beautiful teddy bear and we now have another interesting dinner table story to tell for many years to come.
NANA’S FEATURE IN NEW KID’S TRAVEL APP.
Interactive travel adventure apps for children publisher Bound Round has launched its first detailed destination travel guide app for regional NSW - the Blue Mountains.
I would highly recommend this app to all members especially if you are traveling with children, they keep them entertained and allow them to assist you in the planning of the day’s activities. Kids reckon it is so much better than playing Eye Spy or counting sheep or fence posts like we used to do on family road trips to stay amused.
Here is an excerpt from this weeks press release of the launch
Kids discover more in Blue Mountains
Packed full of videos, photos and fun facts about the Blue Mountains, Bound Round presents kids with engaging, interactive content that shows them the best things to do while in the area as reviewed by like-minded children.
Destinations included in the Blue Mountains detailed destination guide are Govetts Leap, Jenolan Caves, Mt Tomah Gardens, Nana's Teddies and Toys, Norman Lindsay Gallery, Segway Blue Mountains, The Candy Store Leura and The Three Sisters.
Nana's Teddies & Toys owner and Blue Mountains Attractions Group president Dave Robertson, whose specialty store was featured during the Blue Mountains filming, said: ''Bound Round is a great tool for families holidaying in the Blue Mountains.
''It educates and engages kids and gets them excited about the huge range of things they can see and do here. It also helps parents determine what the best things are for the kids to do while on holiday.''
Bound Round is designed for 8-12-year-olds to play with before and during their visit to the Blue Mountains.
Bound Round founder and CEO Janeece Keller said: ''Bound Round puts the elements kids love most - videos, photos, games and interactivity - at the heart of the app. This is what Bound Round is all about: content that is specifically designed for kids thanks to the input of peer-reviewers.''
By capturing if they want to visit a specific location, the app provides parents with feedback from the kids on the activities they really want to do when they get there and then provides information on how to get there and opening hours.
When the kids are in a location they can create their own content in the Journal section of the app and share it with friends and family along with photos in an e-postcard.
The Bound Round interactive travel app is designed for iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded for free via WiFi and 3G through the iTunes App Store. Detailed destination guides already included in the app are: Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Gold Coast, Uluru, Fiji, Hong Kong, Singapore and Phillip Island.
Visit www.boundround.com for further information on the app..

OUR GRANDSON MEETS THE ROYALS
During the Royal visit a local youth group of abseilers and canyoners had the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet with Prince William and show off their skills.
Our eldest Grandson Kaleb was in this group and had the pleasure of demonstrating his rope and equipment skills to William & Kate.
He was one very excited young man when he got back from this adventure, William shook his hand and Kate patted him on the shoulder congratulating him on a job well done.
His group also made the evening news demonstrating abseiling down the cliff whilst William gave his minders a bit of a start as he leaned over the edge to get a better view
Kaleb is pictured in the middle facing Princess Kate with Prince William in the background behind him.
CHARLIE BEATS CANCER
Good News from England this week.
Charlie is now a cancer survivor!!!
As many of you may have read in our previous newsletters Charlotte (Charlie) Morris has had a terrible year after being diagnosed with cancer
William Morris, Charlie’s husband posted this brief but exciting message on facebook advising that this terrible ordeal was over
“Dear all, after a 9 month battle with cancer Charlie and I have been given the best possible news that she has beaten this horrible illness.
We have had so much support from all our friends, family and friends of Charlie bears that we feel truly humbled and want to thank you all.
We know that there are many other people in similar situations and our hearts and minds are with you.
Be strong it can be beaten. With all our love from will and Charlie x I feel a big drink coming on” !!
OUR CHARLIE BEAR ADVERTS ARE A BIG HIT IN WA
Our two latest Nana’s Teddies TV commercials have been well received in Western Australia with a great response from collectors in that state. In the past 2 months we have sent more bears to Western Australia than any other state.
Other states are now starting to have the adverts aired so if you watch any of the Channel 7 regional stations you will probably see them in the near future as we roll them out across the country.
For members who live in the big cities where TV is way too expensive for our meager advertising budget we have uploaded them to our You-tube channel so you can also enjoy watching Jan and a few teddy bear co-stars as they present our latest generic advert and a special one dedicated to all the Charlie Bears we have in stock.

BAG BUDDIES UPDATE
The bag buddies series has been a long time coming and I know many of you have been patiently waiting on their arrival,
one of our members emailed Charlie Bears directly as she didn’t trust the information I was passing on about these designs.
Below is the reply sent to her by Robert Morris, I hope it sheds a little more light and understanding on this issue for all members.
Thank you for your email and firstly may I apologise on behalf of Charlie Bears for the delay in the arrival of the Bag Buddy that you have pre-ordered from Nana’s Teddies & Toys.
I have spoken directly with William Morris the Chief Operating Officer for Charlie Bears on this subject and he has explained to me that the workshop that was originally commissioned for the production of the remaining Bag Buddies have experienced some difficulty and we have been unable to achieve the requisite quality that is essential for all Charlie Bears products and we have therefore moved production of the Bag Buddies to another one of our established workshops that create our Isabelle and Minimo mohair bears, although he has stipulated that the production schedule for this facility is currently at capacity creating our Isabelle and Minimo designs, but he has said that they will be able to allocate a production time slot for the Bag Buddies very soon and although the date is yet to be confirmed this is now a priority and has asked that we bear with him until this can be arranged.
As with all handmade items creating each individual piece does take time and relies heavily on the skill and craftsmanship of the team of people making each little creation and as the demand for Charlie Bears increases throughout the world,
so does the demand increase on our workforce, all of whom
undergo a 4 year apprenticeship and occasionally we are faced with situations that are out of our control and although we can always work through the challenges that we face it can take time to resolve.
I have been in regular contact with Dave Robertson from Nana’s Teddies & Toys in relation to the Bag Buddies who has been diligent in following this up with Charlie Bears and whilst we are unable to give you a definitive date now I can assure you that we are working to resolve this as soon as reasonably possible and will keep Dave updated with the latest progress.
I do thank you for your continued support of Charlie Bears and hope that this has gone some way to alleviate any concerns that you may have.

Sale continues until all stock is cleared
Many of these designs are now retired and really hard to find often you may have to resort to internet auctions like E-bay and pay well over the original prices as these ever popular figurines have captured the hearts of millions of collectors worldwide and once retired they appreciate quite well in value making them a really good potential collectable investments
The Bad News - No more Cherished Teddies for Australia
In May last year we brought you this news, we started this huge clearance sale and have sold over 6000 pieces so far, the sale continues and will run until we clear the final 3000 or so pieces we have in stock.
Whitehill & Co the Australian Distributors along with the UK distributors have announced that due to falling demand bought on by the Global Financial Crisis that it was no longer viable for them to continue importing the Cherished Teddies ranges from Enesco, this decision means the end of Cherished Teddies in Australia and will have major ramifications on the future production of these collectables.
The need to produce these figurines in high quantities to keep the prices reasonable, the high cost of shipping such heavy items, warehousing costs and the dedicated staff required to administer sales are all factors in the distributors decision to no longer support the range.
Many retailers in Australia stopped carrying them in the past few years which has also effected the sales potential and viability of these and many other product lines.
The Good News - We are having a Massive Clearance Sale
50% off all Cherished Teddies Designs
We have done a deal with the Australian distributors to clear the last of their stock holdings at heavily discounted prices.
That combined with our already huge range means that we have over 9000 Cherished Teddies being cleared at half their regular prices.
The choices are vast as we have hundreds of designs available, some are recent releases and some are hard to find retired designs but all are amazing value.
The clearance sale is being held both On-line and In-store, for our internet customers just add all the designs you would like to the Enquiry Cart and use the Promotional Code CT SALE we will then check stock availability and get back to you promptly with your discounted price & postage costs.
In store we have set up a couple of huge trestle tables laden with bargains, as well as what is listed in our on-line catalogue we have a big selection of designs that are “last ones” that are not viable for us to spend the time putting them on line, the costs involved in photographing, processing and creating on line entries for these “last ones” is greater than what we sell them for.
So if you want a great bargain make a trip to the shop as soon as you can for the best selectio n, the Sale continu es and will run until we clear all stocks.
The sale is open to the general public as well so if you know any Cherished Teddies collectors who are not members of our club do them and us a favor and let them know about this massive clearance.
If you are not a CT Collector you may still wish to take advantage of this sale as Cherished Teddies make fantastic Christmas Presents and stocking fillers and at these prices you can’t go wrong.
