Made from quality German mohair, with excelsior stuffing, and with a growler voice.
On his paw pad is embroidered his edition number.

READ THE STORY BEHIND THIS WONDERFUL TRADITIONAL OLD BEAR
On September 23rd 1955 – 50 years ago – Max Hermann passed away. He handed down to all of us a good and well-known name, which was carried from Sonneberg in Thuringia around the world. He started with a small Teddy Bear workshop and built up a respected company. His last great decision, before he died, was, to lead his family to the western part of Germany and his Teddy Bear into a good future. From this time on, the tradition of the old Max Hermann Teddy Bears has its home in Coburg. Until today the spirit, the force and the courage of Max Hermann live on in our Teddy Bears. In memory of the 50th anniversary of our founder’s death, we want to introduce a Teddy Bear, which shows Max Hermann in that kind, like he has lived and worked.
“Old Hermann, the Bear Stuffer” tells a story from the first beginnings of the old Max Hermann Teddy Bears. It was the time short after the First World War. Unemployment and misery was all around. As well as it was possible in those years Max Hermann made Teddy Bears and sold them to big Sonneberg wholesalers, who sent them overseas. The proceeds for his Bears were small, but he get his money always at once, when he delivered them. This helped him, to buy new material and to work on. Although the proceeds were so meagre, he made his Teddy Bears always carefully. His huge knowledge about making good Teddy Bears helped him by this. So it needed not a long time, that the buyers of big foreign department stores became known of him and they asked Max Hermann, whether it is possible to buy directly from him.
Max Hermann get – so the family history tells – his first big export order, from the English department store company “Marks & Spencer”. But the joy about this order didn’t last a long time, because now new problems came up to Max Hermann. To satisfy the export demands, he had to increase his production. But for this he needed capital. Material and wages had to be pre-financed, because it could last weeks , until the payments would arrive from a foreign country. But Nevertheless, this was a chance, which Max Hermann didn’t want to let slip. Young and commercially inexperienced like Max Hermann was at that time, he put on his best and sole suit, to go to the banks. He wanted to cut a fine figure, perhaps then he would succeed in finding a bank, which would give him a credit. But which bank ever he visited, all over he get the same answer – without security no money. But security Max Hermann couldn’t offer. Also in the 20 miles far away town of Coburg the bank manager of the “Bayerische Staatsbank” didn’t raise Max Hermann’s hopes of a credit without security.
Some weeks later – Max Hermann had already lost all his hopes – there was a knock at the door of his little Teddy Bear workshop in Sonneberg. A fine dressed man entered the room. It was that bank manager from Coburg, with whom Max Hermann had negotiated for the credit. The visitor looked around searchingly and asked, whether he could talk to the owner of this Bear company. Max Hermann was just stuffing some of his Bears. He had still his stuffing tool in his hand, when he went up to the bank manager. But the former didn’t indicate him, because Max Hermann was covered from head to foot by excelsior. Max Hermann answered, that he himself would be Max Hermann. Now by degrees, the bank manager became aware of, that this man, who stood face to face to him with his old working apron and wood wool dust powder in his hairs, was in deed Max Hermann, who had visited him weeks ago. The bank manager was so astonished about the working force of Max Hermann, that he called – so the family history tells – in the same moment: “Mr. Hermann you will get the credit from my bank, your working hands are security enough for me.”
This was the beginning of the first big flowering time of the old Max Hermann Teddy Bears. And still today the excelsior stuffed mohair Teddy Bears, accurate the same Bears like Max Hermann had made them by his own hands in those times of the first beginning, are remained the heart of the HERMANN-Coburg collection.
