Joseph Haydn is the oldest of the three “Vienna Classics”, along with Mozart and Beethoven.
Haydn created many famous symphonies like the “Toy Symphony”
Most of his compositions were called into being during his time on the court of Prince Nikolaus Joseph Esterhazy in Eisenstadt.
After the death of the prince, he moved to Vienna.
His friendship with Mozart between 1781 and 1791 reflects in the compositions of both men during that time.
Beethoven was a pupil of Haydens between 1792 and 1795, and during this time Beethoven dedicated three of his piano sonatos to Haydn.
In 1797 Haydn composed “God Save Franz the Emperor”, which was the basis of the “German song”, which has been the National Anthem of Germany since 1922, and also today of the Federal Republic of Germany.
He is made from quality German mohair, with excelsior filling, and plays the tune “The Toy Symphony”.
Dressed in a burgundy velvet coat with ruffled lace collar, he is holding a quill, and a felt music score, with notes from The Toy Symphony.
